Richard Allen “Dick” Emerick, 89, of Mexico, died at 12:20 a.m. on Monday January 29, 2018, at Pin Oaks Living Center in Mexico.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, February 3, 2018, at Grand Prairie Baptist Church in Auxvasse with Pastor Mark Ritchey and Bro. Ben Taylor officiating.
Richard was born January 19, 1929, in Quincy, IL, the son of Clyde and Catherine (Langan) Emerick. On May 1, 1955, in Chicago, he married Esther Kohler who preceded him in death on July 21, 2017.
Mr. Emerick served in the US Navy during World War II. He worked as a maintenance engineer at Missouri Veterans Home in Mexico for several years. He had also worked at Camp Cherry Mountain in Macks Creek, Mo. He enjoyed farming and the outdoors, he also loved to decoupage.
Richard was an active member of Grand Prairie Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, was a member of the men’s prayer group, and most all other church activities. The church was his main interest.
Survivors include one son, James Emerick and wife Erna, St. Peters; four daughters, Deborah Mayo, Mexico, Carole Woolfolk and husband Johnnie, Auxvasse, Mary Catherine Sterner and husband William, Cleveland, OH, Linda Svejkovskya and husband Allen, Jacksonville, FL, and Irene Locke and husband Steve, Springfield, MO.; 21 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 62 years, one infant daughter Diana, and one grandson, Richard Sterner.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be given to Grand Prairie Baptist Church. They may be sent in care of Pickering Funeral Home, 403 N. Western, Mexico, MO 65265.
