Donna May Smith, 62, of Centralia, died at 1:23 p.m. Sunday February 4, 2018, at SSM Saint Mary’s Hospital – Audrain.
Memorial Celebration of her life will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, February 16, 2018, at St. John’s Lutheran Church with Rev. Donaldo Sonntag officiating. There will be a luncheon after the service at the church.
Donna was born on May 19, 1955, in Cambridge, England, a daughter of Darrell and Sheila (Purkiss) Marking. On April 30, 1988, in Mexico at the Lutheran Church, she married Alan Smith who survives.
Donna worked in nursing for many years. She spent the last 12 years of her career working at the Missouri Veterans Home in Mexico. Her health forced her retirement in 2002. She had also spent 2 years serving in the Air Guard.
She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Mexico. She had previously been a member of the VFW auxiliary. She enjoyed flower gardening and taking care of house plants. She loved caring for her 2 dogs, 2 cats and pet rabbit.
In addition to her husband she is survived by one brother, Don Marking and wife Janet, of Mexico; one brother in law, Sam Smith and wife Sonya, Centralia; three nephews, Zachery, Greg and Jesse Smith; four great nieces and nephews, Gavin, Summer, Blake, and Ethan Smith; two Aunts, Lois Pigeon, Scranton, ND, and Donna Larson and husband Gary, of North Dakota; one uncle, Donald Purkiss, England; and a few cousins including Pauline Worsley, of England.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Darrell and Sheila, and grandparents, Gilbert and Hazel Ronning.
The family is thankful for everyone at Pin Oaks where Donna was well taken care of for close to 2 years.
Instead of sending flowers the family requests memorials be given to Pin Oaks Living Center (Activities Fund) or to the American Diabetes Association. They may be sent in care of Pickering Funeral Home, 403 N. Western, Mexico, MO 65265.
